What is the Raviv Method?
Our bodies work best when our brain is functioning at it's maximum efficiency delivering messages and instructions to the rest of the body via neural pathways and the nervous system. For learning to be effective, communication between the brain and all parts of the body are vital. Problems arise when those neural pathways connected to the learning centres of the brain are underdeveloped perhaps due to some trauma during birth or a genetic predisposition.
When the brain and body do not communicate correctly, this can manifests itself in such difficulties, sometimes in isolation but often appearing as a mixture of symptoms. For example, many people would consider that poor coordination would have little impact on learning skills, apart from handwriting. However, it is now widely accepted that good overall coordination has a major role to play in reading (eye tracking), pencil grip (fine motor skill), hand-writing (posture and muscle tone), focus and concentration (balance and overall coordination).
The Raviv Methods works to fill those gaps in neurological development through the use of a targeted exercise and sensory stimulation programme individually designed to meet the needs of that particular client.
How does the Method work?
The Method works on the principle that the brain is divided into 2 halves. The right side of the brain controls the left side of the body and vice versa. It is this criss-crossing of the neural track across the brain and body that forms the basis for the main exercise of the programme. Once established, the Method moves onto different games and exercises which are specifically designed to improve skills such as memory, visual perception, motor coordination, reading, sequential thinking (Maths) and inter-personal skills.
How long does the programme last?
The program is very intensive and focussed. Improvements are often seen after only 4 - 6 sessions as long as the client has adhered to the exercise regime at home. Depending upon the type and scale of learning difficulties present, the total programme can last anything between 5 – 6 months.
- A fun way of reinforcing the keys skills for effective learning. Just 20 minutes daily of exercise which for children has the added bonus of being unlike normal homework.
- A major benefit of the programme is that the creation of the new neurological pathways continues for some time after the programme has ceased.
- Gives the client a sense of renewed belief and confidence by improving their life in many different ways.
